The beachgoer was bitten on his legs by what was described as a 4 to 5-foot bull shark. The victim was leaving the water with other swimmers after lifeguards saw the shark and ordered an evacuation.
"In my 20 years as a lifeguard, this is the first time a person has been bitten here at Haulover Beach, and possibly the first for Miami-Dade County," Lt. Matt Sparling of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Ocean Rescue told WPLG.
The victim was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
