Suspected Hotel Robber May Face More Charges

A man faced a judge Thursday, accused of holding up a jewelry store and robbing a hotel guest.

Several police departments, including Miami Township's, are now looking at whether Shawn Smith is connected to additional robberies.

Police in Miami Township said they believe that Smith robbed a guest at the Double Tree Hotel, and now they are seeking charges. However, Smith was in court facing other alleged crimes.

Smith faced the judge, accused of committing two serious crimes. Police said he robbed a man leaving the Holiday Inn Express near the Dayton Mall. They said he also held up Osterman Jewelers in the Dayton Mall, stealing a Rolex watch.

Smith was also charged with holding up a guest at a Holiday Inn in Centerville.

Police in Miami Township said they can link Smith to a guest robbery at the Double Tree near the Dayton Mall.

Smith is being held on a $250,000 bond for the robbery at the Holiday Inn Express and the mall robbery. Police said they hope to get additional charges filed against Smith next week for the Double Tree robbery.
