The Web site is called backpage.com, and it is modeled after the popular Craigslist site. Police are monitoring both and it paid off in an arrest on Monday night.
Rahming was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on prostitution charges. She told officers that she did it to pay her bills and to take care of her 14-month-old child.
John Maurer of Dayton said, “I don’t know if I buy that. You're still breaking the law.”
Police said a Dayton officer was checking Web sites for escort ads on Monday night when he came across Rahming’s post on backpage.com.
The posting came with pictures, text and a phone number.
In a police report, the officer said he called Rahming and arranged to meet her at the Marriot Hotel in Dayton. Investigators said once Rahming arranged for someone to watch her child, she met the officer at the hotel and was arrested.
Backpage.com is very similar to Craigslist. These are two sites that police keep an eye on when it comes to suspected prostitution.
Maurer said, “Frankly, there are so many different routes for people to break the law that police and authorities can’t cover them all.”
