Voss dealership to replace used car facility

The city’s Planning Commission has approved a site plan for a used car dealership building at Voss Chevrolet, 99 Loop Road.

A new structure will be constructed on the south side of Loop, adjacent to the existing used car building, which will then be demolished.

Centerville city planner Steve Feverston said the project will not affect the current parking lot or driveway access, but lighting will be upgraded.

John Voss, president of Voss Auto Network, said the new building will be part of a re-emphasis on pre-owned vehicles.

“Our used car business is thriving. We think the new facility will help us sell an additional 100 vehicles a month. It will be a state of the art operation including the Reynolds and Reynolds Co.’s new docuPAds, which are going to replace a lot of the paperwork we do now. It will streamline operations for the customer.”

Voss said cost estimates are still being formulated. The company hopes to have permits approved by Sept. 1 and start construction by the end of December. Move in would be in May or June of 2013. “At that point, we will tear down the old building,” which was constructed in 1973, he said.

The new two-story building will be slightly larger and include company offices, he added.

The Voss Auto Network complex ranked as Centerville’s eighth largest employer in 2011 with 231 workers.
