A special grand jury has decided not to indict the officers in the Beavercreek Walmart shooting. The grand jury found officers were justified in their actions. Here are some key questions and answers:

  • What questions were answered today?
  • The Beavercreek officers won’t face any criminal charges locally.
  • The surveillance video inside Walmart of the shooting of John Crawford by police was released and we saw Crawford with the gun out of its packaging, standing in an aisle, holding the gun, swinging it for several minutes, while on a cell phone. The video did not show him pointing it at citizens in the store. The video does not show Walmart security officers approaching Crawford at any time.
  • Officer Sean Williams was taken off paid leave and given a temporary desk assignment. Sgt. Dave Darkow has been back on regular duty.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice said it will now investigate the case
  • What questions remain unanswered?
  • Will the special prosecutor consider charges for anyone else?
  • What would other Walmart security cameras show happening in the store, where shoppers were while Crawford had the gun in hand?
  • How is the community reacting to today's decision?
  • The NAACP called for a U.S. Justice Department investigation.
  • The Beavercreek Police and Ohio Attorney General’s office asked the FBI to investigate
  • No large protests or crowds have formed to react to today’s decision, but there is a lot of reaction on social media.
  • What is next?
  • What will be the result of the Department of Justice investigation?
  • We are requesting more surveillance video from inside Walmart that may show other shoppers in the store, their reactions and their proximity to Crawford.
  • We are waiting on toxicology reports from the coroner's office from Crawford's autopsy.
  • What does the family of Angela Williams, the shopper who died of cardiac arrest in the store, think about today's decision?
