17-year-old boy: I shot myself

When Middletown police were called to Atrium Medical on Wednesday night, a 17-year-old Middletown teen told them he accidentally shot himself in his right leg.

He said he put his .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband, and he accidentally discharged the weapon near his home in the 300 block of Young Street. The bullet entered and left his leg, according to police.

His mother was called and he was issued a Juvenile 101 for discharging a firearm in city limits. The boy told police that after he shot himself, he threw the gun down, but police were unable to find the gun in that location or in his home.
