SHIVERDECKER, Rick

SHIVERDECKER, Rick F.

Retired Dayton Police Officer, 64, passed away at his home with his loving wife Susan at his bedside, May 28, 2021. At 11:04 AM Rick began his final great adventure. Rick was born October 13, 1956, in Celina, OH, to Mary Lee (Horn) Quinter and Paul Richard Shiverdecker. In 1982 Rick was accepted into the Dayton

Police Department and spent the next 29 wonderful years there. He was a patrol officer with car, motorcycle, and horse. He was a night detective, class counselor, academy instructor, and a firearms / range officer. He considered the Dayton

Police 89th Recruit class "his kids" as well as retired officer Willie Hooper his son. Rick thought he was doing the dream job of every 12 year old boy. A cowboy, cop, and someone who could shoot guns all day. After retiring Rick spent one summer being 15 again before taking a bus driving job for Northmont City Schools. Lifelong friendships were created with the guys and gals who worked there. He is survived by his wife, Susan; mother, Mary Lee; sons, Dustin and Travis; daughters, Cayce and Kristen; and grandchildren, Connor, Bronwyn, Liam, John, and Elena. The family will receive friends from 3-5 PM, Friday, June 11, 2021, at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home, 5555 Philadelphia Dr., Dayton, OH 45415. A Memorial Service will follow at 5PM. Pastor Pete Chafin and Chaplain Rhonda Alderman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
