A: Au contraire. That person probably already has received a huge raise and a promotion. You can't buy the free publicity the promotion receives. It is written about and it is talked about on TV and radio, more so than some silly paid advertisement. LaRosa's is hugely happy with it, especially late in games when fans start chanting, 'Pizza, pizza,' when the other team has struck out 10 times.
Q: Do you agree that Walt Jocketty deserves a lot of credit for the Cardinals ability to survive so many injuries to their pitching staff because of their pitching depth in the minors? — MARK, BLOOMINGTON, IND.
A: No, I don't. Jocketty deserves a lot of credit for what the Cardinals accomplished in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but a new regime in St. Louis fired him after 2007. That was six years ago and the pitchers the Cardinals are plugging in right now were drafted and signed long after Jocketty departed. Let's look at what Jocketty is accomplishing in Cincinnati and forget about St. Louis.
Q: Could you see the Reds reaching out to Scott Rolen to play third base and moving Todd Frazier to left field for another right handed bat? — MARK, CINCINNATI.
A: The only place you are going to see Scott Rolen on a baseball field is in Jasper, Ind., with his kids. Even if he did come back he would need the equivalent of four or five weeks of spring training — meaning a long session in the minor leagues. And right now Frazier wouldn't be the answer. He is hitting .235, hasn't homered in the month of May and has only five RBI since May 6.
