Lounge bar near UD raises the bar on late-night food and brunch

Tim's, Timmy's, Timothy's Bar, Timothy's Pub & Grill ... call it whatever you like, but for more than 50 years it's a bar that has been a home away from home for tens of thousands of University of Dayton students.

The history of the bar prior to 1965 is an interesting one. In the years following the end of prohibition until the early '50s, it was called the Double 18 Lounge, a reference to the address of the building.

That name, the Double 18 Lounge, has been reborn with a major second floor renovation above Timothy's. The new space has a lot to like including an impressive vintage Double 18 Neon sign that greets you as soon as you make it up the stairs.

The decor is hip and cool and a great spot to post up on the weekend with friends. The industrial lounge space has an inviting long bar featuring craft cocktails and beer that will quench your thirst. It has one of the best patios around the UD campus with a nice view from the second floor and a late-night menu featuring 10 different types of steak sliders.

In addition to being a great late night dinner and snack destination with satisfying items like tater tots, beer battered banana peppers, giant pretzels and the aforementioned sliders, it also boasts a great Saturday brunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Head there for a bloody and some satisfying brunch bar food. A sausage, cheese and egg breakfast slider ($4) can be made into a combo with two sliders and tots for $8. A breakfast bake $6 featuring tots, egg, cheese, green and red bell peppers and your choice of sausage or bacon can be topped with sausage gravy for $2.

Bacon cake dippers ($1 each) can be added onto any meal.

Cinnamon roll French toast ($8), a classic breakfast ($8) and skinny frittata bites ($7) are also worthy options. Wash it down with a ginger peach mimosa ($6) or watermelon basil mimosa ($6) if you want something more exotic than a Bloody Mary or a screwdriver.

>> Gas station chicken? Yes, and it’s delicious. Where to try it.

Double 18 Lounge has raised the bar on spots near UD's campus. This is a destination that you don't have to be a student to want to seek out.
