Cleveland scored twice against Reds prospect Robert Stephenson, who was making his first major-league spring appearance. Stephenson was the Reds’ first pick in the 2011 draft.
Jay Bruce and Ryan Ludwick hit consecutive singles in the fourth off Josh Tomlin, but the Reds left both stranded.
Zach McAllister started for the Indians and set the tone for the day with two scoreless innings. Josh Tomlin, competing for a spot in the rotation, followed with two more in his first Cactus League appearance.
Then the bullpen took over as Axford, Scott Atchison, Cody Allen, Marc Rzepczynski and Scott Barnes completed the shutout.
