Many athletes followed suit with demonstrations of their own, so there is no doubt he influenced the national discourse.
However, Kaepernick’s credibility was undermined by his choice to wear socks depicting cops as pigs (not to mention a Fidel Castro shirt) and the revelation he didn’t vote in the election last November not because he didn’t care for the candidates but because he doesn’t believe voting will fix the problems he perceives with the country.
