“I’ve got to knock them in,” Sibert said. “The thing about basketball is you live to play another day. It is what it is. It happens. They did a good job. They didn’t leave me as much as they did last time. It was a little different for me. Credit to them. They did a great job defensively and offensively. Hopefully, we’ll see them again.”
Sibert shot 1-of-8 from the field. Vee Sanford had a similar line: 1-of-7 from the field for two points. Dyshawn Pierre also struggled, scoring six points on 3-of-11 shooting.
Devin Oliver (10 points and 11 rebounds) and Jalen Robinson (13 points) were the only Flyers in double figures.
Despite being the second-most accurate team in the A-10 from long range (38 percent), Dayton made 5-of-22 3-pointers (23 percent), ending a streak of seven games in which it shot at least 33 percent.
Surprise score: Even the Saint Joseph's fans were surprised by how dominant the Hawks were. Saint Joseph's extended its lead to 30 points in the second half, and a fan in the front row was overheard saying, "I didn't expect this."
Ronald Roberts led the Hawks with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He had a poster-worthy dunk over Dayton’s Kyle Davis that might have landed him on SportsCenter on Tuesday night. Chris Wilson scored 20 and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field.
Dayton has lost seven in a row at Hagan Arena and hasn’t won there since 2000.
Next game: The Flyers (19-9, 7-6) host Massachusetts (21-5, 8-4) on Saturday in their second 11 a.m. game of the season. It will be televised on ESPNU.
The Minutemen host Rhode Island (12-16, 3-10) tonight. UMass is coming off two big wins: 80-75 over Virginia Commonwealth on Feb. 1 and 67-61 over George Washington on Saturday.
Around the A-10: This was the only A-10 game Tuesday. George Mason (9-17, 2-10) hosts Richmond (18-9, 8-4) tonight, and La Salle (12-14, 4-8) tries to stop a five-game losing streak at home against Saint Bonaventure (16-11, 6-7).
The Flyers remain in seventh place despite the loss. They lead the Bonnies by a game and trail George Washington (20-7, 8-5) by a game.
