Bowl prediction: Ohio State vs. Clemson in playoff semifinal

Ohio State has held on to its No. 1 ranking all season in the Associated Press and Amway Coaches polls, but the only ranking that matters these days is the College Football Playoff ranking. The first one will be released Nov. 3.

With most teams at the halfway point of the regular season, USA Today released a bowl projection Wednesday. The newspaper predicts Ohio State will play Clemson in the Orange Bowl in Miami on Dec. 31. That's one of the two playoff semifinal games.

USA Today predicts Texas Christian will play Alabama in the other semifinal, the Cotton Bowl on Dec. 31 in Arlington, Texas.

The semifinal winners play for the national championship at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., on Jan. 11.
