Ex-Miami standout called up by Bruins
BOSTON — Former Miami RedHawk standout Carter Camper was called up to play for the Boston Bruins on Monday. Camper (2007-11) was a two-time Hoby Baker Award finalist, a two-time All-American and twice a first-team all-Central Collegiate Hockey Association selection. He’s been playing minor league hockey for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
Camper joined the team in St. Louis and practiced with the squad Tuesday morning at the Scottrade Center, donning No. 58. The Bruins play at the St. Louis Blues at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The game will be televised on NESN (New England Sports Network) and Fox Sports Midwest. Camper takes the place of center Rich Peverley, who is out 4-6 weeks with an injury.
Wings part of three-team deal
The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Kyle Quincey on Tuesday in a three-team deal that sent forward Steve Downie from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Colorado Avalanche.
The Lightning acquired a first-round pick in this year’s draft and minor league defenseman Sebastien Piche after exchanging Downie for Quincey with the Avalanche. Tampa Bay then dealt Quincey to the Red Wings for a first-round pick and Piche.

Bower MAC East player of the week
CLEVELAND — Junior first baseman Kevin Bower was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced today. The award is the first for the Indianapolis native.
Bower helped Miami to a 2-1 series win at Furman on opening weekend, by batting .636 with one home run and six runs batted in. He was 7-for-11 overall, reached safely in all three games to run his hitting streak to seven games dating back to last year.
Bower has multiple hits in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, tying his career high with four hits in the first. He added two hits - both doubles - in the nightcap, driving in a career-best four RBIs. Bower finished the weekend with a slugging percentage of 1.091 and an on-base percentage of .643, plus scored four times, walked twice and had a sacrifice fly. In the field, he was perfect, recording 27 putouts at first base.
