“Extremely thankful for this opportunity!” Marshall wrote. “Can’t wait to get up to Ohio and get right to work!!”

Marshall replaces Matthew Sweet, who served as a student manager from 2014-17 and then worked as a graduate assistant in Grant’s first two seasons. Sweet earned his master’s in business administration this spring.

Butler made the Final Four in the 2010-11 season, Marshall’s first. He started the next three years and scored 1,373 points in his career. He scored 21 points in two games against Dayton as a junior in 2012-13, the one season Butler spent in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

After college, Marshall spent four seasons playing professional basketball in Japan, Dominican Republic, Spain and Portugal.

In 2017-18, he started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Florida Southwestern State College. He moved to Florida Gulf Coast University last season as a coordinator of video operations. Brett Comer, who's entering his third season as a graduate assistant at Dayton, played at Florida Gulf Coast.

Marshall is a graduate of Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Fla., north of Miami. Grant and Dayton assistant coach Darren Hertz are from the Miami area.
