Dayton opens conference play with three of its first four on the road. The Flyers are red hot, winning five in a row, seven of their last eight and are 12-3 overall. During its five-game winning streak, Dayton has played well defeating Seton Hall, George Mason and New Mexico in that stretch. Chris Johnson has been UD’s best performer of late, scoring in double figures in seven straight games. Meanwhile, Chris Wright has been a beast on both ends of the floor averaging 16.6 points and 9.0 rebounds during the win streak.
Saint Louis begins conference play as well entering the contest 5-8 overall, but 4-3 at home this season. The Billikens rank third in the A-10 in scoring defense, yielding an average of 64.0 points per game. Offensively, Saint Louis does not have a player averaging in double figures. The closest player is Kyle Cassidy averaging 9.9 points per game while shooting .539 from the field. Paul Eckerle ranks second in the A-10 in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting .522 percent (12-of-23) of his shots. SLU has a 36-9 all-time record at Chaifetz Arena.
Dayton leads the all-time series 23-21, but has lost three straight. Dayton has met Saint Louis in overtime eight times, including five of the previous 10 meetings.
According to CollegeRPI.com, Dayton’s RPI is 48. Through Jan. 4, the Dayton Flyers have the best non conference mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 12-3 record. Dayton has four victories over Top 100 RPI opponents with wins over Ole Miss, New Mexico, George Mason and Akron.
