A foot-in-mouth fault from Serena

I missed Serena Williams’ U.S. Open tirade as it happened, so I was curious to see exactly how it played out when I got home.

As expected, I was disappointed in the behavior.

Williams’ antics, for sure. But perhaps more so by the U.S. Open crowd that sided with Williams for yelling “Come on!” right before her opponent, Samantha Stosur, attempted a lunging backhand.

And that’s saying something considering Williams’ appalling lack of sportsmanship and abusive comments, telling the chair umpire:

“If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you’re out of control. You’re a hater and you’re unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? Wow.”

Ouch.

And this gem:

“Who could do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow. What a loser. Code violation because I express my ... We’re in America last I checked.’’

I mean, come on!

Couldn’t you see Phil Mickelson yelling “Get in the hole!” during Tiger Woods’ backswing on No. 16 at the Masters, showing his support.

Or Kobe Bryant shouting “Rebound!” to his teammates right before LeBron James lets a free throw roll off his fingertips in Game 7 of the NBA Finals?

Really? You can’t?

Come on!
