Johnny Manziel: A timeline of a quarterback’s fall

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was indicted in Dallas on a domestic violence case Monday, the latest misstep for a Heisman Trophy winner who has not been able to stay out of trouble.

The Dallas Morning News reported Manziel faces a misdemeanor assault charge. He allegedly kidnapped, hit and threatened an ex-girlfriend earlier this year.

This won’t surprise Browns fans who have followed his career. Here’s a timeline of Manziel’s best and worst moments since being drafted with the 22nd pick of the first round in 2014:

May 26, 2014: Manziel appears in a photo in Las Vegas with the Patriots' Rob Gronkowski and numerous bikini-clad women not long after the first session offseason workouts with the Browns ended.

June 7, 2014: Manziel appears in another photo taken in Las Vegas. This time he's laying on an inflatable swan in a pool with a bottle of liquor in his hand.

June 16, 2014: A video surfaces of Manziel speaking into a stack of money as if it were a cell phone.

July 4, 2014: More photos of Manziel in Las Vegas come out and just weeks after the Browns warned him about his behavior. He's fined $12,000.

Aug. 8, 2014: Manziel flips his middle finger at the Washington Redskins bench during a preseason game.

Sept. 14, 2014: Manziel makes his NFL debut, throwing one pass in a victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Dec. 14, 2014: Manziel makes his first NFL start and completes 10 of 18 passes with two interceptions in a 30-0 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dec. 27, 2014: Manziel misses a walk-through practice before the final game of the season. He later admits he was partying the night before the practice.

Jan. 28, 2015: Manziel enters a treatment facility, the Caron Center in Reading, Pa.,

“We respect Johnny’s initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process,” Browns General Manager Ray Farmer said in a statement. “Our players’ health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns,” Farmer said.

April 17, 2015: Manziel leaves the treatment facility and releases a statement: “I would like to thank my family, friends, the Browns organization, my teammates and Browns fans everywhere for your patience, understanding and support during my stay at Caron. The doctors and staff have been amazing and what I’ve learned in the last couple of months has been tremendous.”

June 27, 2015: Manziel talks to the media for the first time in six months, calls his rookie season a disaster and says he's ditching his trademark money sign.

“It just overtook who I am as a person,” he says.

Sept. 20, 2015: Manziel makes his first start of his second season and leads the Browns to a 28-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans. He throws two touchdown passes.

Nov. 8, 2015: Manziel returns to Texas A&M for a game during the Browns' bye week. A week later, photos surface of him partying on campus.

Nov. 23, 2015: TMZ publishes a video of Manziel partying in Austin, Texas. Manziel claims the videos are old.

Jan. 6, 2016: Manziel receives a citation for driving with expired license plates.

Jan. 30, 2016: Police in Fort Worth, Texas, investigate an incident involving Manziel and his girlfriend. This leads to the indictment Monday.

Feb. 5, 2016: Manziel's agent, Erik Burkhardt, announces he will no longer represent Manziel. Meanwhile, Manziel's dad, Paul Manziel, tells the Dallas Morning News, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday."

Feb. 24, 2016: New Browns coach Hue Jackson makes his feeling known about Manziel.

“That behavior will not be tolerated as we move forward,” Jackson said. “Our organization is going to take a stand.”

March 11, 2016: The Browns waive Manziel. He started eight games in two seasons and threw seven touchdown passes.

April 13, 2016: TMZ reports Manziel was a passenger in an alleged hit and run and was picked up at the scene by former Texas A&M teammate, Von Miller, of the Broncos.

April 19, 2016: Manziel's new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, announces he will no longer represent Manziel.

Manziel releases a statement to USA Today: "I'm hoping to take care of the issues in front of me right now so I can focus on what I have to do if I want to play in 2016. I also continue to be thankful to those who really know me and support me."
