Mason High School senior Nick Northcut on Monday was named Gatorade Ohio Baseball Player of the Year.

Northcut, a Vanderbilt signee, is the first Gatorade Baseball Player of the year from Mason.

A 6-foot-1, 205-pound third baseman/pitcher, Northcut is hitting .324 with three home runs, 24 runs batted in and an on-base percentage of .512 in 31 games. On the mound, the right-hander is 2-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 27 innings. In the classroom he maintains a 3.4 GPA.

Northcut is a three-time, all-Greater Miami Conference and two-time All-Ohio honoree.

Northcut and the Comets are in the state final four for the first time since 1987. Mason will face Whitehouse Anthony Wayne at 1 p.m. Friday at Huntington Park in Columbus.
