Overview: The win gives Fairborn (6-2) at least a tie for the championship in the South Division of the Greater Western Ohio Conference. It is the first football title for any Fairborn school since 1976 when Park Hills won the Miami Central Conference with a 9-1 record. The Skyhawks are 3-0 in the South and can be outright champions with a victory at Lebanon (2-1) next Friday. Xenia is 2-6 and 1-1.
Turning point: Fairborn was leading 14-7 with 11:10 to go in the second quarter. It had driven to the Xenia 5-yard line. On 4th-and-4, quarterback Kendrick Williams threw an incomplete pass, meaning the ball would have gone over to Xenia on downs. However, an official saw what appeared to be pass interference and threw his flag. Fairborn got a first-and-goal and Williams hit Jason Moorman with a 4-yard flip to make it 20-7. On Xenia’s ensuing series, Bucs quarterback Zach Newsock was intercepted by Fairborn’s T J. Tillman. Devon Hamilton scored three plays later. Stat pack: Three of Fairborn’s TDs came on big plays — a 49-yard run by Winston Childers; a 56-yard run by Noah Rehs and a 41-yard pass from Williams to Kelvin Gassion to set up a 1-yard score by Hamilton. ... The game got chippy in the second half with eight personal fouls called.
