“To be honest, it means nothing this early in the season,” Krause said. “We’re not talking about it as a staff because we know it’s going to change a lot over the next six weeks.
“We’re not even halfway through the season,” he continued. “There’s still a lot of football to be played. We won’t really begin to pay attention to it until about Week 7 or 8.”
Still, fans will see that the Middies, who also are ranked 13th in the most recent Associated Press state football poll, are ranked right behind St. Xavier, Elder and Moeller in the region.
“We’re excited to be 4-0 and being discussed with the top teams in the region,” Krause said. “I think people realize we’re playing good football, but it will mean a lot more if we can be there later in the season.”
Springboro, also 4-0, is ranked fifth in the region and would play at Middletown if the playoffs were to begin this week. Check out the Harbin Ratings on Page B3.
Division III, Region 12
Franklin (3-1) is ranked fourth in the Division III, Region 12 rankings, which would give them a home playoff game.
The Wildcats qualified for the playoffs last season for the first time in 17 years.
Monroe, also 3-1, is ranked sixth and would open on the road if the playoffs started this week.
Division IV, Region 16
Here’s a bit of a surprise. Guess who’s ranked No. 1 in Division IV, Region 16?
Nope. Not the defending state champion Alter Knights.
It’s Carlisle. The Indians (4-0) are ranked first ahead of Clinton-Massie and Alter, which are second and third, respectively.
Fenwick, also 4-0, is ranked fourth, and Valley View, at 3-1, is just outside of the playoff picture in ninth place.
