Lake Loramie: Nice-size bluegills are being caught along the banks on rubber spiders tipped with waxworms. Look for rocks or brush and fish in shallow water. Crappies have finished spawning, so fish in slightly deeper water with minnows or jigs. Bass have been hitting black/white or chartreuse spinnerbaits, chatterbaits or flippin jigs. Catfish are hitting bass minnows or cut shad.
Paint Creek Lake: Crappies have moved off the banks, so the best fishing has been in 6-10 feet of water using minnows or light-colored jigs. For bass, work the points 4-8 feet deep with shad-colored crankbaits or green/pumpkin worms. Use waxworms to catch bluegills in the coves and around docks. Catfish have been hitting bass minnows, nightcrawlers or cut shad on the flats. A few saugeyes have been caught on large minnows or 3-inch twisters in the hazard zone or in front of the beach. In the spillway, they're catching saugeyes on chartreuse/ red fleck twisters and crappies on minnows. Channel cats are hitting nightcrawlers and liver.
Cowan Lake: Crappie action has been hot most of the spring, when the weather cooperates. The water is clear and crappies are being caught all over the lake. Try to find ledges and work up and down with a minnow. Bluegills are nailing waxworms around brush or rocks. Bass fishing has been strong, especially in the mornings along the banks with crankbaits and plastics.
Rocky Fork: Bass fishing continues to be good around points. Use crawdad-colored crankbaits or plum worms. Bluegills are around docks or in the coves, hitting waxworms. For crappies, use minnows or black/chartreuse jigs fished around laydowns and stumps. Most are 7-12 feet deep. Saugeyes have been caught in front of both beaches and around the island. Troll or cast with a chartreuse/red or silver fleck twister or perhaps a Shad-Rap or Berkley Flicker Shad.
Acton Lake: Plenty of crappies are being caught, but only 20 percent are keepers. Use minnows and fish close to the bottom in 8-10 feet of water. Also try a chartreuse jig. Saugeyes are hitting big minnows fished with a drop shot or Carolina rig. Bluegills are on the banks, hitting waxworms. Bass fishing has been good with white/chartreuse jigs or plastics.
Caesar Creek Lake: Low-water conditions continue and the Wellman Meadows ramp is still the only one open. Crappy fishing has been good. Look for structure and fish 10-12 feet deep with minnows or jigs. Bluegills are 6-8 feet deep around trees and stickups. The best saugeye fishing has been by trolling around the island with a crawler harness. Or try jigging with a large minnow. Bass are being caught around stumps along the banks with spinnerbaits or plastics.
Indian Lake: Saugeye fishing is still hot. Some of the top spots are the south bank, Lakeview Harbor, in front of the Moose Lodge, around bridges and in the channels. Use large minnows, night crawlers, Vib-Es and brightly colored twisters. For crappies, fish under a bobber with minnows around lily pads and docks. Bluegills are hitting waxworms close to the banks and around rocks. Plenty of catfish have been caught on large minnows, nightcrawlers and cut shad.
Lake Erie: Fishing was good over the past week around "A" can of the Camp Perry firing range, over Niagara, Crane, and Toussaint reefs, between Green Island and Rattlesnake Island, north of the Marblehead Lighthouse, southwest of Kelleys Island and north of Kelleys Island and Kelleys Island Shoal.
Yellow perch have been caught east of Kelleys Island and the Marblehead Lighthouse.
