Josh McCown out this week, rookie Kessler likely to start for Browns

The Cleveland Browns are on the verge of being a dubious three for three.

After ESPN reported Monday the team will start Cody Kessler at quarterback against Miami on Sunday, coach Hue Jackson confirmed Josh McCown is out with a shoulder injury.

McCown, who is considered week-to-week, was hurt Sunday in his first start in place of Robert Griffin III.

Griffin hurt his left shoulder in the team’s season-opening loss to the Eagles.

The Browns drafted Kessler out of USC in the third round in April.

He would be their 26th starting quarterback since the franchise returned to the league in 1999.
