Future Buckeye Romero chasing history at state wrestling

Mechanicsburg senior Kaleb Romero is on the verge of history.

Romero can become the 29th wrestler in Ohio history to win four state wrestling titles this weekend at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Romero, who will compete at 170 pounds in Division III, is 48-0 this season. For his career, Romero is a remarkable 198-3. He hasn’t lost a match since the middle of his sophomore season. Last year, he became just the third wrestler in Ohio history to win all four of his state bouts by technical fall.

An all-state quarterback, Romero will wrestle collegiately at Ohio State.

Josh Lawson of Olentangy Liberty (Division I, 160) also is seeking his fourth straight state title. Lawson won his first two titles at Graham.
