Rounds 11-20 taking place Tuesday in 20-round draft

Three players with local connections heard their names called Tuesday on Day 3 of the Major League Baseball draft.

Dayton Flyers third baseman Riley Tirotta was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round. He was the 362nd overall pick.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Tirotta, who’s from South Bend, Ind., and is a graduate of Mishawaka Marian High School, hit .337 with a team-best 53 runs scored as a senior in 2021. He made the All-Atlantic 10 Conference second team.

In the 14th round, the Boston Red Sox drafted Miami RedHawks right-handed pitcher Jacob Webb, a Fairborn High School graduate.

The 6-5, 246-pound Webb started his college career at Sinclair Community College and played the last two seasons at Miami. He made 18 relief appearances as a senior this spring and went 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA. He struck out 59 batters in 39.0 innings pitched.

At Fairborn, Webb was a four-year letterwinner. He holds the school record for ERA in season (1.20), strikeouts in a season (71), strikeouts in a career (200) and runs scored in a season (34).

Webb was the second player from Miami University drafted this week. Sam Bachman was the ninth player taken overall in the first round by the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

Another University of Dayton player was chosen in the 18th round. The Oakland A’s selected second baseman Mariano Ricciardi, a 5-7, 170-pound second baseman from West Boylston, Mass., and the Worcester Academy.

Ricciardi led the Flyers and tied for third in the A-10 with a .352 batting average as a senior. He ranks third in program history with a career average of .349.

On the first two days of the draft, three Wright State players were drafted.

• The Milwaukee Brewers picked Wright State second baseman Tyler Black with the No. 33 pick on Sunday night.

• The Houston Astros picked Wright State University outfielder Quincy Hamilton, a Centerville High School graduate, in the fifth round Monday.

• Also on Monday, the Miami Marlins drafted right-handed pitcher Jake Schrand in the ninth round with the 269th overall pick.
