Obi Toppin, Adam Trautman share UD student-athlete honor

R.U.D.Y.S. awards held online this year

An event usually held at UD Arena went online Tuesday as Dayton Flyers checked in from home across the country to participate in the annual R.U.D.Y.S. awards.

R.U.D.Y.S. sands for “Recognition and celebration of University of Dayton Student-Athletes Year-end Showcase.”

The most prestigious award, the Rudy, was given to the “people who most epitomize what it means to be a Flyer.”

The male winners were Obi Toppin and Adam Trautman, of the basketball and football teams, respectively. Kevin Lawson (cross country) and Hunter Wolfe (baseball) were also nominated.

Mallory Kimmell (softball) and Jayla Scaife (basketball) were the female winners, while Ellie Cronin (golf) and Bridget Doherty (volleyball) were also nominated.

The winners were announced on Twitter and Instagram. Here’s the list of the other athletes honored:

Winner: Men's Basketball 2019-20 season
Other nominees: Baseball advancing to 2019 A-10 Championship final; Football's win vs. No. 14 Indiana State; Volleyball's win vs. Michigan and breaking attendance record and going on to win A-10 Championship; Women's basketball winning the 2019-20 A-10 regular season and tournament titles.
