Tim Tebow is returning to Florida.

The New York Mets promoted the former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner at Florida to Advanced-A St. Lucie. The outfielder hit .222 with 69 strikeouts in 63 games for the Single-A Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies.

Tebow moves on the Florida State League, where the Cincinnati Reds’ minor league club, the Daytona Tortugas are 34-35 in the North Division.

St. Lucie and Tebow will face the Tortugas July 12-14 at Port St. Lucie. The teams have each won five head-to-head matchups thus far.

Tebow may have the opportunity to face two promising Daytona arms in Jesus Reyes and Vladimir Gutierrez. Reyes owns a 3.95 ERA in 12 starts, while Gutierrez has struck out 74 hitters in 68 innings.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said, despite uninspiring numbers, Tebow warranted a promotion.
