Report: MLB season could be as short as 50 games in latest proposal

Major League Baseball owners and players continue to go back and forth in an attempt to work out a deal and save the 2020 season, which was indefinitely suspended in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest proposal by the owners, according to a report Monday by ESPN's Jeff Passan, calls for a season that could be as short as 50 regular-season games. Players would be paid a pro-rated salary.

A day earlier, the players proposed a 114-game season, Passan reported, running from June 30 to Oct. 31.

That came after the owners approved a plan for an 82-game season that would start July 1-4 without fans in the stands.
