Greg McDermott intends to remain the basketball coach at Creighton after reportedly being the target of Ohio State’s search.

McDermott tweeted shortly after noon Thursday, “I’m blessed and honored to be the coach at Creighton… and am looking forward to many more great years in Omaha! #rollyjays”

The Creighton coach emerged as the perceived No. 1 contender after ESPN reported he had been offered the job late last night.

Chicago Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg was also identified in multiple reports as a candidate, but he told the Chicago Tribune he has no intention of leaving that organization.

Ohio State is seeking to replace Thad Matta, whose 13-year run at Ohio State ended Monday.

Matta led the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament nine times, including a pair of Final Four appearances. The Buckeyes failed to make the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons.

Where Ohio State turns next is not clear, though

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski floated out the name of former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach and current Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Brown.

Brown has no college coaching experience, but he was named NBA Coach of the Year in 2009.
