Rookie Davis moving up in Reds organization

The Reds have promoted another of the players they received for Aroldis Chapman last winter.

Rookie Davis tweeted Friday he was set to join the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A team for Cincinnati.

The move comes after the 23-year-old right-hander was 9-3 in 18 starts at Double-A Pensacola. He had a 2.72 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP while walking 26 and striking out 58 in 96.0 innings. MLB.com ranked him the Reds’ No. 7 prospect at midseason.

The Reds traded Chapman to the New York Yankees in December for four players.

Reliever Caleb Cotham appeared in 23 games for the Reds this season, posting a 7.40 ERA before going on the DL with a shoulder inflammation.

Infielder Tony Renda made his major-league debut this week. He has appeared in three games but is still looking for his first hit in the big leagues after hitting .315 with 35 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 91 games split between Pensacola and Louisville.

The fourth player in the deal, infielder Eric Jagielo, is batting .214 with seven homers, 24 RBIs and 104 strikeouts in 90 games in Pensacola.

The Reds made room for Davis by trading pitcher Chad “Shark” Rogers to the Braves.

They also sent left-hander Nick Routt to Pensacola and activated centerfielder Bryson Smith from the disabled list.
