HS Roundup 1/3: Sidney off to best start since 1978-79 season

Unbeaten Sidney added another win to its resume, defeating West Carrollton 64-48 in boys basketball on Friday night.

The victory bumped Sidney to 9-0 for the first time since the 1978-79 season.

Darren Taborn led Sidney in scoring with 17 points and Avante Martin had 12 points with 11 rebounds.

Sidney pulled away from a tie game at the half with a 16-8 run in the third quarter and a 15-7 run in the fourth.

Stanley Shrivers scored 18 points in a losing effort for West Carrollton.

Sidney will travel to Tippecanoe on Tuesday for a shot at 10-0, which would mark the best start for a Sidney boys hoops team since 1936.

Botkins 55, Fort Loramie 47, 2OT: Botkins pulled away in the second overtime thanks to clutch shooting at the foul line. Jayden Priddy Powell led Botkins with 20 points and Zane Paul and Jacob Pleiman each added 13.

Butler 76, Fairborn 72: Julius Pullen finished with 21 points and Dwight Lewis 14 in a losing effort for Fairborn.

Centerville 55, Miamisburg 37: Gabe Cupps scored 10 points for Centerville, which pulled away in the second half to snap a four-game losing skid. Colin Murphy tallied 12 points for ‘Burg.

Fairmont 45, Lebanon 40: Anthony Johnson recorded 15 points, Kaleb Hall added 11 and Danye Lewis hauled in 13 rebounds for Fairmont. Milo White led Lebanon with 14 points.

Franklin 64, Valley View 54: Caden Johnson led the way with 22 points for Franklin, which improved to 7-1.

Greeneview 65, West Jefferson 36: Rhett Burtch put up 16 points and Gabe Caudill tacked on 14 for Greeneview.

Greenon 94, Triad 71: Six players reached double-digit scoring for Greenon, led by Luke Downing with 13. Clayton Minteer, Mason Potter and Cade Rice tacked on 12 apiece.

Hamilton 41, Middletown 38: Trey Robinson poured in 24 points with 11 rebounds for Hamilton, which won in rally fashion to improve to 7-1. Tywin Hall led Middletown with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Jackson Center 43, Fairlawn 39: Aiden Reichert turned in 25 points for Jackson Center. Ashton and Skyler Piper had 14 apiece for Fairlawn.

Lakota East 56, Fairfield 38: Nate Johnson totaled 13 points, Alex Mangold 11 and Kobe Peck 10 to help Lakota East improve to 9-1.

Marion Local 48, St. Henry 31: Bryce Moeller tallied 12 points, Peyton Otte 11 and Matt Everman 10 for Marion Local.

Miami East 67, Tri-County North 56: Sam Zapadka and Brendon Bertsch scored 19 points apiece to help Miami East move to 4-0 in conference play. Dylan Stinson paced TCN with 24 points.

Minster 52, Fort Recovery 50: Justin Nixon chipped in 16 points and Jacob Salazar 14 to help Minster move to 8-1. Grant Knapke paced Fort Recovery with 16 points.

Mississinawa Valley 51, Newton 42: Blake Scholl led Mississinawa with 22 points and Max Dirmeyer tacked on 13. Mitchell Montgomery had 14 points for Newton.

Northridge 75, Carlisle 65: Isaiah McCallop and Darryl Story turned in 24 points apiece for Northridge and Cameron Evans added 11.

Oak Hills 65, Lakota West 63: Julian Mackey recorded 23 points and Carter Combs 19 for Lakota West, but Oak Hills scored a layup at the buzzer for the win.

Piqua 56, Greenville 52: Garrett Schrubb scored 21 points, Kameron Darner 13 and Iverson Ventura 10 for Piqua.

Preble Shawnee 61, Milton-Union 56: Sam Agee and Jake Green each scored 15 points and Bryce Singleton added 13 points with 15 rebounds for Preble. Sam Case scored all 18 of his points off of three-point baskets for Milton.

Ross 64, Little Miami 42: Cole Gronas turned in 25 points, Max Stepaniak added 13 and Sam Nunn 12 for Ross.

Russia 58, Houston 27: Mason Dapore bucketed 15 of his 18 points in the first half to pace Russia.

Stebbins 62, Xenia 52: Matthew Caupp scored a career-high 18 points in the loss for Xenia.

Trotwood 82, Beavercreek 77: Sammy Anderson poured in 37 points to help Trotwood hold off a rally effort from Beavercreek.

Versailles 62, New Bremen 48: Michael Stammen led four players in double-digit scoring for Versailles with 19 points. Patrick Wells scored 23 points for New Bremen.

Wayne 49, Northmont 45: Malcolm Curry paced Wayne with 12 points, eight assists, six steals and six rebounds. Cam Fancher added 10 points.

West Liberty-Salem 56, Madison Plains 39: Matthew Loffing led WLS with 14 points. Holden Neace tacked on 12 and Nick Burden 11.

Olentangy Berlin 5, Springboro 1: Slade Surikov scored the lone goal for ‘Boro.

Talawanda 6, Centerville 2: Jackson Byrd netted a pair of goals as Talawanda built up a 6-0 lead going into the final period. Justin Peters and John Hall had a goal each in the third period for Centerville.
