The Dayton Flyers started three newcomers Monday night in their exhibition game against Cedarville at UD Arena.

Freshman forward DaRon Holmes, DePaul transfer Kobe Elvis and Georgia transfer Toumani Camara joined two returners, R.J. Blakney and Koby Brea, in the starting lineup.

Blakney and Brea each started three games last season as freshman. Camara started all 25 games last season as a sophomore for Georgia and started 23 of 32 games as a freshman. Elvis started four games last season for DePaul.

Dayton led 46-28 at halftime. Two years ago, it led Cedarville 46-33 at the half.

Camara led Dayton with 11 points in the half. Mustapha Amzil and Elvis each scored 10. Elijah Weaver had eight.

Cedarville shot 0-of-15 from 3-point range. Dayton made 6 of 13 3-point shots.

Amzil, Weaver and freshman Malachi Smith were the first reserves off the bench for Dayton. Kaleb Washington and Moulaye Sissoko also saw action.

Lynn Greer III and Richard Amaeufule were the only scholarship players not to get in the game in the first half. Zimi Nwokeji is not at the game.

Here are a few other quick halftime observations:

• Camara had the best play of the half, catching an alley-oop pass from Elvis and dunking backwards.

• Former Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky coach John Brannen, who was on Anthony Grant’s staff from 2006-13 at VCU and Alabama, is sitting behind the Dayton bench.

• While Cedarville coach Pat Estepp said last week his team wasn’t out to shock the world in the exhibition, he was on the bench for Cedarville when it beat Wright State 68-66 in 2003.
