Xenia, Tipp win ACME baseball titles

VANDALIA — Xenia Trophy Sports defeated Vandalia Butler 11-4 on Wednesday, July 15, to win the Ohio District 5 ACME baseball championship.

Nick Cain was the winning pitcher and put his team ahead for good, 4-3, in the third inning with a bases-loaded double. Trophy Sports added seven runs in the fifth sparked by Jordan Scott’s three-run double.

Xenia now faces District 8 champion Tippecanoe in the ACME state tournament which begins Saturday at Lima Shawnee High School.

It’s the first trip to state for Xenia. ACME teams are composed of incoming sophomores, juniors and seniors from their respective school districts. District 5 is made up of high school summer teams from Montgomery, Greene, Butler, Warren and Clinton counties. District 8 is made up of teams from Miami, Shelby, Darke and Preble counties.

Tipp defeated Piqua 8-0 on Tuesday at Northmont High School with David Moore tossing a three-hit shutout.
