Cold temps continue into today with gradual warmup beginning this week

Very cold air will remain entrenched across the region this weekend before a gradual warmup evolves through the workweek, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high of 23 degrees, followed by a cold but mostly overcast night with a low of 14 degrees. Wind chill values as low as minus 2 are possible tonight and Monday.

Monday will bring mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-to upper 30s. . Rain is expected after 5 a.m. with possible freezing rain as well. The low will fall around 32 degrees.

Rain may mix with freezing rain at times Monday night into Tuesday morning, leading to the potential for some light ice accumulations as well.

Freezing rain will stop around 8 a.m., turning to all rain afterwards. Highs will be near 43 degrees. Precipitation continues into Tuesday night with a low temperature of 38 degrees.

Several rounds of rain are likely through midweek, according to the NWS.

More rain showers are expected on Wednesday, too. The high will be near 51 degrees. Wednesday night will be rainy with an 80% chance of precipitation.

The low will drop to around 45 degrees.
