Mad River Mountain Nears End Of Busy Ski Season

This has been one of the busiest ski seasons in Mad River Mountain’s 47-year history.

Brian Papworth, marketing director at Mad River Mountain, said it’s the cold and, at times, snowy weather that has brought more people out to the slopes.

“Starting about the 10th of January, all the way through January, to the beginning of February, we had phenomenal weather,” said Papworth. “That’s when things really picked up.”

That month of cold and snowy weather left the mountain coated in natural powdery snow.

“We had Colorado conditions in Ohio for almost a month,” said Papworth. “It was fantastic.”

Even with below average snowfall in February, people still strapped on the boards and skis.

“The only part I like of the winter is snowboarding,” said Lindsay Vilga of Pataskala.

“I really enjoyed it,” said skier Kevin Farst. “It’s just run to really come out and just let loose. It’s great.”

Even as green grass replaces the white and the mountain nears the end of another season, skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes for one last taste of winter fun.

Mad River Mountain plans to close after Sunday, March 8, depending on weather conditions. For more information visit the Web site http://www.skimadriver.com/
