Mostly cloudy, mild today; Rain, rising winds arrive tonight

It will be mostly cloudy and mild today ahead of rain and rising winds arriving overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Highs will be around 50 degrees.

Once the sun sets, there will be a chance of rain, with showers likely starting at around 11 p.m. Rain chances will dip for a short time but are expected to continue through dawn on Thursday.

It will be much warmer for Thursday with a high in the lower 60s. It will be rainy in the morning and windy all day, with the best chance for strong winds in the afternoon and early evening.

A High Wind Watch takes effect from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. in Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties, and a Wind Advisory will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Butler and Warren counties.

Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected with gusts up to 60 mph. Damaging winds could blow down trees and branches along with power lines, causing widespread power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, the NWS said.

Thursday night will still be windy but gusts will gradually decrease overnight. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 37 degrees.

Friday will be much cooler but still above normal with a high around 42 degrees. There will be a chance of rain starting in the afternoon and continuing until around midnight. The low overnight will dip below freezing to around 29 degrees.
