It will be a damp end to 2021 and a wet start to the new year as heavy rain is expected tonight and New Year’s Day, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. While flooding is possible in southeast Indiana and norther Kentucky, there’s also a chance of high waters along the I-70 corridor.

A chance of showers will begin just before dark and rise as the night goes on, making rain likely a few hours before midnight and continuing through the night.

Warmer than usual weather continues, with overnight lows around 51 degrees.

New Year’s Day will be breezy and warm, with showers continuing through the day. The rain will continue after dark, gradually falling to a chance of rain after midnight.

Falling temperatures will cause rain chances to first mix with, then change over to a chance of snow before dawn on Sunday.

The rains beginning Friday night and ending late Saturday could bring isolated flooding, especially in the southern counties of the Miami Valley.

Highs will be around 57 degrees on New Year’s Day, falling to a low around 31 degrees.

There will be a chance of snow showers throughout the day on Sunday, trailing off around dark.

Clouds will gradually decrease during the day and overnight on Sunday.

Temperatures won’t rise much during the day on Sunday, with highs around 33 degrees. Overnight, though, the NWS predicted temperatures will drop down into the teens, with lows around 18 degrees.
