Mostly sunny skies today; Warmer temps, rain to return Friday

Snow flurries will clear this morning to sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures reaching 40 degrees. While temperatures will continue to warm this week and eventually hit 60 degrees Friday, a chance for severe storms are expected to move in by the end of the work week, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Overnight, skies will be mostly clear to begin with, through clouds will build back up again after midnight for mostly clear skies around dawn. Temperatures will fall back down below freezing, with lows around 24 degrees.

On Thursday, skies will be partly sunny, with a slight chance of rain beginning shortly before dark. There will be a chance of rain throughout the night.

Highs on Thursday will be around 48 degrees, only falling a few degrees after dark to a low around 43 degrees.

On Friday, rain chances will increase as the day goes on, making showers likely starting around noon and continuing through the night.

Soon after night falls, there will also be a chance for thunderstorms, especially shortly after midnight.

Friday night will be windy, with sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible, the NWS said.

Rain chances are expected to fall, though not disappear, shortly before the sun rises on Saturday.
