Snow to fall today, heavier amounts moving further north

Snow will fall today, with a clipper system dumping 1 to 2 inches on much of the area, and 3 to 4 inches on areas north of Interstate 70, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The day carries a 100 percent chance of snow, the NWS said. It placed Miami, Clark, Champaign and other counties north and east under a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Today’s high temperature will be near 31 degrees.

The NWS predicted 1 to 2 inches around the Dayton area, with lower totals further south. Less snow is expected as most of it will be moving further north.

Snow accumulation on roadways will create slick conditions, the NWS said, and could lead to hazardous travel. Extra caution is recommended, NWS said.

The overnight low will dip to 14 degrees.

Monday will carry a 20 percent chance of snow for much of the day. Rain or snow is possible in the late afternoon and evening after a daytime high climbs to 36 degrees.

Sunshine is expected to return Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the mid 20s both days.
