Sunny, hot this weekend; Cold front brings rain, cooler weather next week

With the sunny weather the shadows of the trees along the river on Patterson Road resemble the roots of the trees.

This weekend will be sunny and hot, with highs in the 80s before a cold front will bring rain and cool temperatures for next week, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Today will be mostly sunny and breezy, with highs climbing up to around 83 degrees, followed by a partly cloudy night with lows around 62 degrees.

Sunday will be more windy, with gusty winds around 26 mph in the early afternoon. Clouds will increase as the day goes on, leading up to a chance of rain and thunderstorms starting in the evening.

Highs will again reach up around 83 degrees.

There will be a chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms throughout the night as clouds continue to build up.

Lows will be around 59 degrees.

On Monday, rain chances will rise, with showers likely by mid-morning. There will be a higher chance for thunderstorms for a few hours in the early afternoon before both rain and storm chances fall in the evening. Rain is expected to trail off around dark.

Highs will be cooler than over the weekend, rising to around 68 degrees.

Monday night will be mostly cloudy as temperatures drop to around 43 degrees.
