Sunny, warm for holiday weekend

This weekend will largely be sunny and warm, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

For Independence Day, skies will be mostly clear, although there will be a slight chance for some afternoon showers and storms. The NWS predicted the rain chances will dwindle as the afternoon continues.

By the evening, the NWS said skies will be partly cloudy, but dry for prime fireworks time.

Overnight on Sunday, it will be partly cloudy and calm.

Highs for Sunday will be around 90 degrees, falling to around 69 degrees overnight.

On Monday, there will be most clouds during the day, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms for most of the afternoon. Those chances will fall away in the evening, and clouds will gradually decrease as the night goes on.

Highs will be around 90 degrees on Monday, with lows around 70 degrees overnight.
