Two tropical storms impacting Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor two storms that continue to develop in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico .

The first is Tropical Storm Bret which continues to churn off the coast of Venezuela. Tropical Storm Warnings extend for Trinidad and Tobago and Tropical Storm Watches have been issued for Curacao.

This system will continue to move west northwest with wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. As it progresses through the eastern Caribbean it is expected to weaken and not bring much more impact directly to land.

A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico has strengthened and organized to become Tropical Storm Cindy according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm developed a well defined center making it the third named storm of 2017. Winds are now sustained at 45 mph and it's still expected to move on shore Thursday. Heavy rain will be the biggest impact.

Heavy rain extends well to the north and east of the center. Projected rain totals could reach 6-9 inches in southeastern Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle through Thursday. Localized amounts closer to 12 inches will be possible.

There are Tropical Storm Warnings that extend along the Gulf coast of Louisiana and Tropical Storm Watches have been extended to the upper portions of the Texas Gulf coast.

Tropical Storm Cindy is expected to move northwest in the coming days. It could move inland near the Louisiana/Texas border on Thursday. From there the remnants of this disturbance could bring some tropical energy further north towards Kentucky.
