Virgin Atlantic passengers stuck on snowy New York tarmac for 6 hours

Passengers on a Virgin Atlantic flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to London were stranded on the tarmac for six hours, then stuck in the terminal overnight, NBC News reports.

The flight originally was supposed to leave at 6:30 p.m. Monday, but nearly six hours later, the pilot announced the plane wasn't going to take off. Passengers were sent to the terminal for the night.

Traveler Helena Shackleton of Yorkshire, England, said passengers were "really frustrated."

"Our luggage is still on there because they said there is no one qualified to take it off. It's a complete disaster," Shackleton said.

Felix Kunze of Brooklyn said the airline gave passengers $15 vouchers for McDonald's. He also said on Twitter that the delay was caused by a technical issue.

NBC News said airline officials did not return a request to comment on the delay.
