Warm with showers, storms today; Severe weather possible Wednesday

Today will be unseasonably warm, with the high for today expected near 76 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

A thick cloud cover will decrease in the afternoon but increase after the sun sets. It will be mild tonight, with overnight lows only dipping to around 67 degrees.

Wednesday will be hot and windy, with highs around 79 degrees, showers and possibly thunderstorms throughout the day, and gusts as high as 40 to 45 mph.

The NWS issued a Wind Advisory across the area from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. During that time, gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and tree limbs could be blown down, causing power outages.

The area also is under an enhanced risk for severe weather, according to the NWS.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon and evening. The main threat is damaging winds and large hail. However, isolated tornadoes also will be possible.

Showers and storms will trail off overnight, coming to an end by dawn Thursday. Overnight temperatures will tumble over 30 degrees, with lows around 45 degrees.

Thursday will be mild and partly sunny, with a high around 58 degrees.

Skies will be mostly cloudy on Thursday night with the overnight low around 37 degrees.
