Bitterly cold weather with very low temperatures are expected tonight and into the morning hours.

Skies will be clear with nighttime lows near zero in the northern counties to 10 degrees in the southern counties, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday for Champaign County, issued by the NWS. Wind chills are expected between 10 and 15 degrees below zero. Anyone outside should wear appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves. The wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Clouds will increase during the day on Thursday, which will have a high above freezing around 33 degrees. Light snow, with less than a half inch accumulation, is possible Thursday night into Friday, mainly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. The overnight low will be around 22 degrees.

Friday will be mostly cloudy and colder with a high near 24 degrees. Friday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 5 degrees and wind chills again dipping a few degrees below zero.
