Former home of Rike’s owner sells for $1M in Oakwood

The Oakwood estate that was once home to the owner of Rike-Kumler sold for $1 million.

High Acres, as the estate is known, was originally built in 1927 for Frederick Rike, who was the former owner of the department store chain Rike-Kumler, also known as just Rike’s.

The Dayton-based retail company had a downtown Dayton store at the corner of Main Street and Second Street that was later torn down and replaced with the Schuster Center. Rike’s merged several times until it eventually became part of Macy’s.

The nearly 10,000-square-foot Rike estate at 2765 Ridgeway Road sold Feb. 13, according to Montgomery County property records. The seller is listed as Thomas McColgan Trustee and the buyer is listed as Michelle Rashaed.
