No makeup required for honest, open sentiments

Country music is filled with pretty people, and it has been for ages. The genre prides itself on being honest and true, about everyday people, even if they received an extra helping of hotness.

In this day and age of botox, liposuction and plastic surgery, it’s no surprise country singers remain true to themselves. Dolly Parton has openly admitted to having some “work” done, some parts more than others. Kenny Rogers has admitted his attempt at looking younger by having work done on his eyes was probably not a great idea. But he came clean about it.

So, why all the brouhaha about “stars without makeup?” Why is that so shocking? Now, if you’re a regular person like me, it’s pretty frightening to look in the mirror first thing in the morning, because I don’t see Carrie Underwood looking back at me. But then again, Carrie probably doesn’t see the glamourous Carrie we’re used to seeing when she first rolls out of bed.

Guess what? Nobody is born a Covergirl. When Faith Hill, husband Tim McGraw and their three daughters were seen at LAX in early March on their way to Australia, Faith was photographed barefaced. Faith is one of the most beautiful women in music and would look in anything, right? Some of the headlines were just ridiculous. “Yikes! Faith Hill unrecognizable!” “Faith Hill without makeup? Whoooaaa!” Interesting in that Tim McGraw wasn’t wearing any makeup either and nobody noticed that.

A few weeks ago, Sara Evans got a wild hair and posted a picture of herself without makeup on her Facebook page with the caption, “I’m being brave and posting a picture of me without makeup!” So far, there are more than 45,000 “likes.” No nasty headlines, no hating.

When we shared the picture on our FB page, the love continued: “I think her makeup doesn’t touch her voice and with or without makeup she is beautiful.” “I think it is great that more and more celebs are showing our children that being natural is great too and that they r not perfect!!!!”

And that’s pretty much why Sara decided to be “brave.” “I think people responded to it because it was just very real and I think as women we are way, way too hard on ourselves,” she said on her “Simply Sara” webisode. “It just felt good to send a picture out with no makeup, just me exactly as I am and get that kind of response.” Proof once again, that real beauty is on the inside.
