Scott Flanders, Playboy's chief executive, told The New York Times that Playboy's circulation had fallen to 800,000, down from a peak of 5.6 million 40 years ago, as a result of the ubiquity of online pornography and nudity – a staple of the magazine since its launch in 1953.

"(It's) just so passe at this juncture," said Flanders.

Kristy Garett, from Tblisi, Georgia, will be featured as the last centerfold in the February 2016 issue.

The 25-year-old European can speak six languages.

She has said wanting to pose for the magazine is one of the reasons she chose to relocate to the U.S.

“Playboy has a classic American story, and I want to be a part of it,” she said. “The lifestyle here, where you’re free to express yourself, is my type of life. I am proud of the woman I am and have always dreamed of being talked about because of that.”

Garrett said her idol is "Mona Lisa."
