The Dayton Flyers remain in a first-place tie in the Atlantic 10 at 9-2 with Virginia Commonwealth with seven games to play after the Rams escaped certain defeat at George Washington on Wednesday.

The Colonials took a 53-52 lead on a 3-pointer by Yuta Watanabe with 0.4 seconds to play. Then the Colonials were called for a foul while guarding VCU’s in-bounds play.

JeQuan Lewis made two free throws to win the game. Lewis was the same player who hit the game-tying free throw with no time on the clock Saturday against St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies also hit a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left to take the lead only to be whistled for a technical foul after an individual ran onto the court after the go-ahead shot.
