AVIATION NEWS: FAA to drones: Stop flying near airplanes
The failure occurred during an aerial training exercise over the Buckeye Military Operating Area in southern Ohio, said Staff Sgt. Shane M. Hughes, a fighter wing spokesman.
Firefighters were standing by near the main runway as a precaution for the incident.
“The fire department did roll vehicles to the area as is normal procedure for any in-flight emergency declared by a pilot,” Ripple said in an email.
The jets landed without further incident. The unit is part of the Ohio Air National Guard.
The Fighter Wing will send a maintenance crew to repair the jet at Wright-Patterson, Hughes said.
